It Was A Great Year In My Poppy Patch!

All my Poppies have been openly pollinated by the Birds and Bees. So, they may not flower exactly as pictured. I can however say that the seeds of each different Poppy is a little different colour so maybe they will come true. The information on the Poppies listed below is mostly from my own experiences. I also checked many different books & websites for information and hope I didn’t make too many errors on names etc. Gardening is a hobby that I am passionate about but I can not guarantee my information is correct.

Transplanting Poppies – My Experience.

I started about 25 different kinds of Poppies indoors in early 2010.  I transplanted my Poppy plants outside in the Spring when they were still very small. Most of them survived just fine. The well established Oriental Poppies that I moved around in my flower beds barely survived. Hopefully they will do better for me the next season. A few of the Poppy plants that I purchased from local Garden Centres survived okay but didn’t produce flowers their first year.

To enjoy your Poppies in a bouquet cut them just before they open and singe the bottom of the stem with a burning candle.
