Introduction

Welcome to The Seed Basket

My blog is based on the harvesting and collection of flower seeds from my garden and from my family and friends gardens. While harvesting the seeds I found it very difficult identifying the seeds of some plants. It has also been difficult to find images of several of the flowers and their seeds together anywhere in books or on the web.

I now plan to add a few plants each week to my blog showing the flower, seed pod and their seeds together. I will be doing a lot of research in my gardening books and on the web about each plant in order to get all the facts entered as well.

I have about 200 different kinds of flower seeds harvested so this is going to take some time.

One of my goals for harvesting seeds is to get involved in seed exchanges as well as to sell them. In preparation I have started testing them to make sure they will germinate. As soon as the seedlings have their true leaf I will post the images. Hopefully these images will help some of you identify your seedlings. Please let me know what you think.

  2. Oh, I am sooo excited I found another seed site. I just came across your site while searching for an image of a seed. You probably already heard of this site out of the UK. If not, it may be helpful for you and others. I have considered it to be my seed bible over the last few months. http://www.theseedsite.co.uk.

I am looking forward to visiting your site often.

    • Hi Sherry from Rockford
Thanks for finding me! I use the seed site all the time too. I am new to this web design so it’s not very good yet. I have many more images of seeds, seedlings and flowers but I’m not sure of a good layout yet. I hope you will check back once in awhile.

  3. Wow! Your site is awesome! I was trying to figure out what part of my neighbor’s globe thistle flower head was the seed and you got it pictured! This is really helpful for those of us just starting to grow our own flowers from seed and to hoard seeds off flowers we see and like (and want!). Thank you so much!!

  4. Hi Sherrie, thanks for stopping by my blog and taking time to leave a comment. It’s always great to meet another blogger with the same interests and being another Canadian is even better. I have my seed info on its own blog called Sow Then Grow
and also on my website craftygardener.ca Perhaps we can help each other out when adding more info. I’ve added your site to my Canadian list of blogs and websites.
